In the year of 2022, iLEAD could organize a number of trips for students to important and well- known tourist locations. These locations are important both historically and represent the heritage of India.
To provide the students with an exposure to the industry of tourism and the rich culture and heritage of the nation, this tour was organized.
Students from the BBA in Travel and Tourism in Kolkata along with students from other departments like Media Science, Management, Data Science were also given the opportunity to visit the places.
Some of the places that the iLEAD students visited were:
Date: March 12th 2022
What Did Students Do: Photowalk, Public Relations Networking, interviewing book lovers of the city, made AV news capsules, documentaries.
The students went to the Kolkata International Book Fair accompanied by their teachers. It was their first practical work based outdoor trip post the Covid era.
2. Indian Museum
Date: August 20th 2022
What Did Students Do: A walk through the various historical facts and figures – Statues, sculptures, and coins from the Gupta, Mauryan, and Mughal periods. A tour of the rich bio-diversity of India. A detailed discussion about various revolts that led to India’s struggle for freedom at the ‘March to Freedom’ division. Students were also engaged in the artwork.
The tour was a part of the ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration.
3. Aircraft Museum
Date: September 2nd 2023
What Did Students Do: Students at the museum witnessed various submarines and aircrafts that were used by the navy but now are decommissioned. They also saw the Tupolev Tu-142 M maritime reconnaissance aircraft. It was the longest and heaviest turboprop aircraft in the world and was made by the then USSR. It was used by the Indian Navy for 30 years before getting decommissioned in 2017.
Aircraft Museum at New Town of Kolkata is the first such museum in West Bengal and the 2nd one in India. It is a joint initiative by the Indian Navy and Government of West Bengal to showcase the maritime history of India to the youth.
4. Victoria Memorial
Date: September 28th 2022
What Did Students Do: Students participated in the Eastern Region Quiz by the Ministry of Tourism. Our students Atrima and Bratati, students from the Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management, stood joint third in the competition and were awarded prizes in the Victoria Memorial premises. Some students also volunteered for the event that was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism, and Victoria Memorial Hall on the occasion of the Tourism Week.
The event celebrated the ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of India’.
5. Alipore Jail Museum
Date: November 22nd 2022
What Did Students Do: Students were given a trip to the places where our freedom fighters were held captive by the British Police. Alipore Jail Museum has cells where Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr.Bidhan Chandra Roy, Jatindra Mohan Sengupta, and Chittaranjan Das spent their time after getting arrested.
The newly built Alipore Jail Museum also has a watch tower, library, seminar hall, and a café.
The Department of Travel and Tourism at iLEAD has been regularly organizing trips to important locations that have importance with regard to the traditions, culture, history, and heritage of India. These trips are not only giving great exposure to the students of BBA in Travel and Tourism in Kolkata but also to other students from the departments of media, management, and science who are actively joining the team and experiencing the glory of India.
