The advancement of technology and the internet has made social media a boon for us, however, it seems that the circulation of fake or propaganda news at a rapid pace has made social media platforms a bane at the same time. Fake news or biased information is mostly shared to mislead audiences and get more website visits.
iLEAD witnessed a workshop on Empowering Youth to Combat Political Fake News at the Dale Carnegie Auditorium. The event was organized by the iLEAD School of Creativity and took place on January 12th, 2024. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Mr. Sayantan Ghosh. Mr. Ghosh is a Senior Political Columnist at The Quint and Network 18.
The event started with the felicitation of the guest speaker. Mr. Sayantan Ghosh then started the event by sharing his career journey with the students.
He showcased some examples of fake news and explained what fake news is and how fake news works. He shared some videos and photographs were also screened as examples. Besides, he explained how some political parties circulate and use fake news to gain the audience's attention.
The interactive session ended up as a successful one with huge participation and enthusiasm from students.
