Social Awareness Program for the Ragpickers of Kolkata

iLEAD organized a program on the Ragpicker Community- the unsung friends of the environment. The program was organized by the joint support of Tiljala Shed and Association of Rag Pickers of Kolkata. The event was exclusively sponsored by iLEAD as a part of their commitment towards society and its vulnerable communities. The occasion witnessed the gathering of stakeholders with the rag pickers of Kolkata and the other communities fighting hardships of life in the society. The distinguished guests present in the occasion included:

Alamgir- Joint Secretary of Tiljala Shed and Society for Human and Educational Development, Mr. Srimanta Paramanick, Head of the Research and Development wing of Environmental Engineering of CSIR; Mr. Sarvasish Roy- Head of corporate social responsibility department of ITC group; Dr Kanchan Gaba- Founder of StoneTurn Foundation; Mr.Satnam Ahulwalia- President of Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha; Mr. Uddham Singh- Head of Behala Gurudwara and Khalsa High school; Ms. Saira Shah Ali- Famous Debate host of major English News Channels like Times Now, 9X news and many more news platforms; Ms. Paromita Ghosh- Head of Public Relations department of Candid Communication; Mr. Bansal- Managing Director of Primarc Group of construction; Mr. Taufiq Rehman- Vice President of Association of Rag Pickers of Kolkata.

The entire event was hosted initially by students of the Media Science students of iLEAD and then carried forward by Md. Shafkt Alam- Joint secretary of Tiljala Shed. The program started with a unique introduction where Mr. Bhanuraj- an eminent activist of the Association of Ragpickers of Kolkata and some of the Ragpickers performed on a song composed and written by Mr. Bhanuraj himself. After the completion of the song one of the members of the ragpickers association Sheikh Moidul spoke about the problems of the Ragpickers in the society. He focused on the terrible condition and insecurity in life of the rag pickers living in open roads and beside rail lines. The distinguished guests present in the occasion were felicitated by some representatives of the Ragpickers community like Sheikh Azad, Riziyi Bibi, Azmera Bibi, Rasheeda Bibi, Farida and many more.
