The event was aimed at inspiring school students to take up wide variety of academic and research careers in Fundamental Sciences, Technology and Interdisciplinary areas of Sciences and Technology.

The session started with the inauguration ceremony by the distinguished academicians from the world of Science which included Prof. Saikat Maitra- Vice Chancellor of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Dr. Debiprasad Duari, Director of Research and Academics at MP Birla Planetarium and Institute of Fundamental Research, iLEAD Chairman Mr. Pradip Chopra and Dr. UK Neogi, the Director General of iLEAD.

The schools which participated in the 5 Day Science camp included some top schools of the state like Patha Bhavan, Springdale High School, Pannalal Institution- Kalyani, Sacred Heart Day High School and many more.

Day 1

This day was themed on Theoretical Particle Physics. The first session was conducted by Prof Soumitra Sengupta who is involved with Department of Theoretical Physics at Indian Association for Cultivation of Science. Lectures covered topics like General Relativity, Cosmology, Supersymmetry and High Energy Physics Theory. The second session was by Dr. Papiya Nandi who is currently associated with Research and Education in Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Education. The session was centered on how to increase the awareness and interest of students to the infinite areas of Science and Technology.

Day 2

The session on this day dealt with Structural Biology and Chemistry- Protein Structure. The session was taken by Dr. Maitree Bhattacharya, Director of Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search. She addressed the students about the function and interaction of proteins and about the bio molecular interaction of protein with special reference to Hemeproteins. The second session of the day was on the historic evolution and growth of Chemistry. The session was taken by the Senior Professor of Biophysics of Bose Institute, Mr. Gautam Basu. He gave an interesting lecture on the evolution of Chemistry from ancient times till now. The modern interdisciplinary nature of Chemistry was also discussed with the concept of Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, and Chemical Properties of Matter.

Day 3

On this day there was an interesting Physics workshop by Prof. Krishnendu Chakrabartty, an eminent science activist and science scholar. He showed some experiments on Particle and Classical Mechanics, Properties of Matter, Heat and Thermodynamics etc. The second session was by Prof. Arindam Rana who is associated with Department of Chemistry at City College. He spoke on growth of scientific thought through observation, exploration, curiosity and inference. Hands on lab sessions were also supervised at the iLEAD new campus.

Day 4

This day started with an exciting session on the Science and Technology of Space, Astronomy and Astrophysics. This session was undertaken by renowned astronomy academician, scientist and researcher Prof DP Duari. He discussed about the difference between Astronomy and Astrophysics, Application of physical principles of Mechanics, Properties of Matter, Heat and Thermodynamics, Modern Physics and much more.

The second session was taken by Dr. Paromita Roy, director of Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS), Kolkata. It was on “The Student Scientist- What works and what does not?” She also spoke about the attitude and mindset to become a true Professional Scientist and not just a Science student.

Day 5

The first session of this day was on “How to choose the right career?” The session was taken by iLEAD Chairman, Mr. Pradip Chopra who enlightened the students about the various modern age careers which have used technology and tools of science to generate great professional results.

The final session of the day was on the story of Counting and the world of Mathematics by Prof. Pradipta Bandyopadhyay, professor of Mathematics at the Stat-Math division at Indian Statistical Institute. Topics like Modern Mathematics, Set Theory, Number system, Cantors Theorem, Transcendental Numbers, Roots of Equations, Relations and Functions etc.

The next session was on Developing a Scientific Research Report by Dr UK Neogi. A science exhibition and a debate session were also held to enhance the innovative and scientific acumen of students.

The camp ended with the distribution of the participation certificates to students involved with the camp. The mega event ended with a hope that the effort will surely bring out lot of Professional Science- Technology researchers and academicians who will contribute to the development of nation and the world of science.
