Google news initiative, India Training Network, conducted a half day workshop at the iLEAD campus on 26th April 2019 with approximately 40 media students.
To support trusted and authoritative journalism, Google had launched this initiative focusing on online verification and fact-checking.
The network has so far trained 5,260 journalists across 40+ cities in India, benefitting 200+ newsrooms and universities.
Pralay Laha, a Google Certified Trainer, conducted the workshop speaking about what exactly the Google news initiative is about, how to check facts, how to identify misinformation and disinformation, sources of fake news, kinds of fake news, photo verification and video verification through Google Reverse Search tool and more.
It was a learning process for the students at iLEAD who received hands on experience to combat fake news on social media through the 3 hour long session.
