On 22nd of April 2019, BEML visited iLEAD and interacted with students.
BEML or Bharat Earth Movers Limited is one of the leading rail coach factory, construction equipment supplier and metro train manufacturer in India. It is the only Indian company to make metro trains.
The range of service by BEML range from mining, construction, defense products, aerospace to rail and metro. Headquartered in Bangalore, BEML is now all set to provide the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) with one of its most advanced metro trains.
The train will run in the busy lines of Sealdah and Howrah. The students at the event were given a brief about the high end configuration of the train. It will be an Electro Pneumatic Train with a configuration of 6 cars with a capacity to carry 2000 passengers, with driving cabs on either ends. The propulsion system of the train is IGBT based technology in Japan. The Braking system is a state of art brake control electronics from Germany.
iLEADERS were also requested to voluntarily participate in the Egress study of the train i.e. the study of the real time evacuation system. Egress study is essential to meet the transport validation design under NFPA. It meets the global standard to study the safe evacuation of passengers in case of emergency.
This will be a great opportunity for the iLEAD students to contribute in the process of delivering the city with its first advanced metro train. The session ended with a question answer round among the students and BEML representatives about the train's technology followed by the students voluntarily giving their names to participate in the Egress study.
