On January 24, 2025, iLEAD reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace by organizing the POSH Awareness Program, led by the HR Department. The event aimed to empower individuals with the knowledge of their rights and responsibilities in creating a respectful and harassment-free work culture at 4.30 pm. The keynote speaker, Dr. Ruma Gomes, a respected POSH advisor consultant, leadership coach, and mentor, was honoured by Mr. Sanjaoy Bhattacharya, HR Head of iLEAD.
The event highlighted with open discussion on grievance redressal, the prevention of sexual harassment, and recognizing inappropriate behaviour and boundaries. A major concern was spotlighted—many individuals, especially women, hesitate to file complaints due to societal and familial pressures, often choosing to leave their organizations instead. A powerful video was represented during the session, emphasizing how seemingly harmless remarks or actions can leave deep emotional scars. It sheds light on the grim reality where victims are often blamed rather than protected, reinforcing the urgency of awareness and change.
The session outlined the POSH laws applicable across India by understanding the legal framework. She commented that organizations with 10 or more employees were required to establish an Internal Committee (IC); the revised law now mandates even smaller organizations to comply. From corporate offices to educational institutions, hospitals, and sports organizations, all workplaces must ensure proper redressal mechanisms to ensure the safety and security of every individual.
The discussion underscored that any comment or action with a sexual connotation that makes an individual uncomfortable is grounds for complaint. This applies not only to men harassing women but also to cases involving women-to-women and transgender individuals. Even, power dynamics in organizations often play a significant role in harassment cases, making it imperative to set clear personal and professional boundaries.
Professionalism extends beyond conduct—it includes dress code and virtual etiquette. Faculty and students were reminded of the importance of maintaining decorum in both physical and online environments.
So, raising awareness and fostering confidence to say 'no' were key takeaways from the event. Women must feel empowered to voice their discomfort without fear. Additionally, the session clarified that harassment occurring in workplace-related spaces, such as a company-organized cab, falls under POSH regulations, allowing employees to file complaints. The session concluded with a powerful message: Sexual harassment has no place in a professional environment. With a strong commitment to a zero-tolerance policy, iLEAD continues to take proactive steps to build a culture of dignity, respect, and safety for all. The POSH Awareness Program was not just an event; it was a movement toward a more secure and empowered future.
