A vital aspect of college life is when the fest season approaches and students need to put in hard work, shoulder multiple responsibilities, learn a lot about life by interacting with different people (and not necessarily from books!) and most importantly, organize everything to the point of perfection and follow up with incessant practices to emerge victorious.
iLEAD recognizes the immense potential that students have and how they can all function together to make its annual Management and Media fest - Managedia a tremendous success like every year. This time the event was organized on the 11th and 12th of April and no doubt lived up to the hype. With the theme ‘Be Smart, Be Green’, there were 12 nail biting rounds in total, which included Ice-breaking, PR & Advertising, Digital Marketing, Journalism, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, Best Manager, Photography, Filmmaking, Business Plan and Field Event.
Given the paramount importance of recycling, eco-friendliness and DIY work, the Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurship & Development rightly merged these aspects into the action-packed rounds over the two fun filled days, so as to provide maximum learning opportunities to all. It was amazing how well the events centred on the theme and taught the future leaders how ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ would become the mantras for surviving in the present century. Much like students, even judges were truly happy about how the events shaped up.
At the formal lighting of the lamp ceremony, the institute had Mrs. Rekha G. Warriar-Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India (West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman Islands) as the Chief Guest while Kolkata’s much popular TV host, actor, singer, comedian and radio jockey (98.3 FM- Radio Mirchi) Mr. Mir Afsar Ali was the Guest of Honour. Chairman Mr. Pradip Chopra was also present on the dais alongside the luminaries and spoke how greenery was an innovative aspect of this year’s fest. Mir, known for his perfect comic timings kept the audience in splits with his ‘smart’ talk at the ‘smart’ fest and was also quite ecstatic about the learner-friendly ambience that the campus provided. He said, “You do not realize the value of a fest till the time you pass out of college and years pass after that when you die to engage in these things but unfortunately cannot, except maybe when you are called in as a guest.” On the other hand, Mrs. Warriar who belonged to a completely different field had words of praise for the institute and how the theme “was quite topical and impressive, given the crossroads we have reached of an environmental disaster and the wake up call to action must be initiated at the earliest.”
What began with a wonderful trailer video set off a great run for the next two days, which were no doubt hectic, but a brilliant journey for iLEADERS besides the participants from over 20 reputed colleges of Kolkata, like JDBI, Bagbazar Womens’ College, Pailan Institute, Amity University, and many more, including the host college-iLEAD. The contestants fought nail and tooth to bag the top positions and indeed it was there for all to see during the closing ceremony.
The event came to a close on 12th evening after Executive Director; Ms. Pragya Chopra came on the dais and welcomed the guests- Dr. G.D. Gautama (IAS Retd.- Principal Secretary of Dept. of Small Scale Industries & Trade, GOWB), Mr. Sanjeev Nandwani (President- Global Business Development of Mesco Steel) & Mr. Peng Jun (MD of Lesso Buildtech Pvt. Ltd.- the title sponsor of the two day fest). The formal felicitation getting over, a beautiful video of what the two-day journey was presented to the audience, made by the Studio Team.

The guests soon proceeded towards the cafeteria and tea room- China Town for high tea and students started gearing for their prom night ‘Saints & Sinners’ scheduled on 14th April.
